Hanthana Linux Project was founded in 2009 and we promote Free and Open Source Software among the community and also let them to contribute back. We are happy to announce our latest release Hanthana Linux 21 today. This new release Hanthana Linux 21, is ship with several Desktop Enviroments such as Gnome, KDE, XFCE, Sugar and LXDE. There are several editions in Hanthana 21, for general usage (Hanthana 21 LiveDVD) , educational purpose you can use Hanthana 21 Edu and Hanthana 21 Dev can be use for Software Development purposes. We are please to announce the 64-bit edition of the Hanthana Linux 17 today. You can now download the Hanthana Linux x86_64 Live DVD ISO . Hanthana Linux 17 (i386) released 3 weeks ago received overwhelming feedback from the existing and new users from all over the world with over 9000 downloads so far ( over 15,000 altogether) and counting. Many of our user were eagerly waiting for the 64-bit release, and we apologize for the delay in release. We hate to keep our community waiting but unavoidable technical challenges kept us from releasing this earlier. You may find it hard to believe that Hanthana Linux released are build on personal laptop computer. And in Sri Lanka we are faced with less than 1Mbps internet connection speeds when uploading ISO files to the mirror servers. While our regular DVD release a complete software repository and latest 3D accelerated desktop, LiveCD will cater the the needs of low resource requirements, personalized software selection and simplicity . Latest release of Hanthana Linux (Gagana – 14.5) was introduced to the public at the educational exhibition conducted to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Southlands College, Galle. Students of the IT unit of the college successfully carried out the stall and had delivered more than 300 DVDs free of charge among the visitors. Students, employees from both government and private sector, foreigners were among the visitors. It is notable that Mr. Helmer, one of the Dutch visited the stall the very first day, stated that he will ship 8 computers with Hanthana Linux installed to a school in Sri Lanka. The ten presenters (college girls) at the stall who had no prior experience with Hanthan Linux were armed with the required knowledge in a one day workshop conducted by the Hanthana Linux team. Hanthana Linux is an easy to use operating system in a environment with less or no internet facility. A lot of applications to be used to aid in school curriculum are included. Applications to study periodic table, planetary behaviour and astronomy as well as to generate 2D and 3D graphs, to solve equations are there in Hanthana Linux. Nevertheless, educational games, applications to design and simulate circuits, GNUoctave which is an alternative to MathLab for statistics and wine in case to run a .exe file and many more comes by default.
